Hotel Evergreen

I did like the hotel, but the room was only just clean enough, not especially good. Getting to Brussels takes about 25 minutes. There's no lift. Breakfast is very basic, perhaps even less than basic, though it comes with the room price, so that's fine.

The room was old and dusty, and nobody had cleaned under the bed in ages. Stained sheets, a bathroom with horrible-smelling water, a light that struggled to come on, and a toilet that dripped loudly the whole time. We tried stuffing toilet paper in to quiet it, but it didn't help. The showerhead was coming away from the wall. We got no blankets, just an extra sheet. When we asked the receptionist, he said, “Is it cold?” We found a thick, dirty blanket with no cover in the closet and apparently were expected to put one on ourselves. It was midsummer, so neither choice worked, and the receptionist just shrugged. The main door was also difficult to open and close, and wouldn't shut properly. Staff barely spoke English, and the strong smell on arrival reminded me of an old grandma's house that hadn't been cleaned in months. The area felt sketchy, and I didn't feel safe coming back late at night. It was an uncomfortable stay. DO NOT COME HERE. I won't be back.

The staff were kind and helpful, which was the one good part. Our late arrangements brought us here, but the rooms were worn out and dated, and it's far from the center. The bathroom had mold, and the street-facing windows let in all the noise. I'll avoid it next time.

Rooms are pretty ordinary. Breakfast is the usual menu, without much spicy food, but it's manageable. There are two people at reception: one older man who's very kind and speaks well, and another who's really rude and doesn't know how to treat or talk to visitors. I had a very bad experience with him.
