Jacques Brel Youth Hostel

You can walk to good restaurants, hookah lounges, and places to take pictures of local landmarks from this hostel, whichever direction you head. It feels pretty central, and there’s a washing machine inside if you need to do laundry. There are also great restaurants close by, so I’d probably eat breakfast around town instead of paying for the breakfast package. The garden over there is beautiful too. For somewhere to stay, I’d definitely recommend this place.

The noise made it impossible to rest, and the place was dirty and depressing. It felt more like a prison than accommodation, and it was absolutely not worth the price. We only stayed because our passports had been stolen. Otherwise, we would have left right away. The rules made no sense: they let you check in without documents, but when we asked to borrow a hair dryer, they wanted a physical passport. Apparently you can stay without ID, but need one to dry your hair. It felt poorly managed, uncomfortable, and overpriced. I wouldn’t recommend it unless, like us, you have literally no other choice.

The location is great, and the hostel itself is good. But having to leave the rooms between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. is unacceptable, especially when guests can't stay at the hostel for more than five days. Is that per year, too?

I only got my money back after a month, and that was because I filed a claim directly with Booking. At reception, they charged me again even though I kept saying the booking was already paid. Then it was extremely hard to reach anyone when I called to complain. After several tries, they said I'd have to give them my full card details, including the number, security code, and expiration date, to get a refund. That sounded completely unrealistic and made me feel they were trying to keep my money. Very bad customer service.
