Hotel L'Auberge du Souverain

We really liked our stay, and the people who welcomed us were incredibly hospitable. We hadn’t realized it was an east Indian hotel, and we were very happy with everything when we arrived. The room smelled of cigar smoke at first, though that was better than the cigarette smoke at the previous hotel the night before. We were told breakfast would be available in the morning, but there wasn’t any. Still, I’d say give this place a try if you get the chance.

The breakfast had a generous range of food and drinks, and the lovely woman looking after it made us feel welcome. After a very good Indian meal in the restaurant, we found our room on the 2nd floor, reached by lift. It was fairly small, but had a very wide, comfortable double bed and a spotless bathroom with good equipment. It’s very good value and we had a pleasant stay. We’ll certainly return.

We had a really good weekend here. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. There’s a bus stop right in front of the hotel, and the tram station is a minute away.

The only real upside was the relatively low price. For the cost, it felt a little better than a hostel because we had privacy. Housekeeping kept taking my soap without replacing it. They said there were two bottles of water a day, but I had the same two for all six days. I went half the stay without a shower floor mat, and on the last day and night there was no bed turndown or fresh towels. I wouldn’t recommend buying the breakfast.
