Urban Yard

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I’ve had no confirmation that my Apple Watch is still being held or that the hotel will keep it until I can return. I left it behind after my stay and emailed to ask if it had been found. They replied within minutes to say they had it, which was a relief because it was only two weeks old. I asked if they could package it so I could send a courier, but after two days there was no reply. When I called, they said they wouldn’t package it and couldn’t help further. I asked if they could hold it until I could fly back from the UK, but was told they wouldn’t discuss that on the phone and I’d have to email. I’ve sent several emails without getting an answer. As an international guest, I need confirmation before booking travel back to Brussels. I hope management sees this and sorts it out soon. I’d much rather update this review with a positive outcome.

The neighborhood isn’t ideal and feels quite rough, though getting there before it’s very late should be all right. We had a lovely one-night stay otherwise: the room was clean and spacious, the staff were friendly, breakfast was great, and the hotel had a nice atmosphere.

The hallways were very noisy, and I woke up a few times during the night. Still, I didn’t find the neighborhood unsafe, especially if you stick to the main roads. I think a bodyguard was there all night, which added to the sense of safety, and the hotel itself was nice.

We booked a room for the Brussels marathon, but because we arrived a little early for check-in, they gave us one much smaller than the room we’d paid for. Then the hotel had no water for over 24 hours, with no shower or toilet available. This was an issue inside the hotel, not a city water problem. I know accidents happen, but the way they handled it made everything worse. After we had to leave and use another hotel to shower after running the marathon, they offered just 10 percent off our room. Having water for a shower was essential. We gave them plenty of opportunity to resolve things before writing this, but the guest relations manager was absolutely terrible at handling the problem. The surrounding area was dirty and rough, didn’t feel particularly safe, and we had to walk a long way to find somewhere to eat. Avoid.
