It works well for large groups, but the walls are thin enough that you can hear quite a bit from other rooms and floors. We also thought it was odd to have to pay separately in cash for the rubbish bags.

The playroom was in very poor shape, and the kitchen wasn’t functional. The furnishings were extremely old and in terrible condition.

The fathers had kept the real destination under wraps, joking in the app that the SHH U19-1 team might be heading to Kijkduin. The photos of snow and the Pokémon app gave the game away a bit, but when we left the SHH sports park at 6 PM and reached Monschau about an hour and a half later, the youngsters still weren’t sure what to expect. The organizers had gone ahead that morning to get the familiar Villadelux Villa Leykaul ready for us. The idea for a team weekend had started back in September 2016, with a few dads who regularly supported SHH U19-1. Everyone chipped in, the youngsters helped with a wine fundraiser at Danny's liquor store, and sponsors also contributed to the cost. From the welcome speech, where “champion” came up quite a lot, the lads were looked after the whole time. There were ready-made breakfast tables, plenty to drink, games, snacks, a BBQ, a brisk morning walk and a visit to Martha, dinner out, a tour of a former brewery, and laser tag. Late on Friday, the dads surprised everyone with a singing act they’d rehearsed in a recording studio. It was spontaneous, lively, and unforgettable. We wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at club premises Josje, chatting about those special few days. A heartfelt thank you to Peet Donkers, Rob Francot, John Jacobs, Jan Perriëns, Danny Vilters, George Walker, and Paul Wolfhagen. You were amazing!

What a scandal. The cottage looked nothing like the photos, the neighbors were unpleasant and intolerant, and the equipment was missing or out of order. The kitchen didn’t work either. At least the mattresses were good quality, which mattered for our guests with intellectual disabilities. But the owners’ welcome and kindness toward them were nowhere to be found. Thank you, ladies, for ruining our little ones’ 10-day holiday.

There’s room for at least 20 people, and there are some great leisure activities available. The location is really nice and quiet, and the building is well maintained.
