I’m reviewing the restaurant only, since I didn’t stay overnight. It’s a Michelin restaurant, so I was glad to get the chance to try somewhere a bit fancy. The staff were pleasant, though communication was a little tricky because they didn’t really speak English. We were also pleased they took walk-ins, as two other places we’d checked were fully booked. It was nice to see that it’s pet-friendly, with a few dogs dining there. We had three courses and dessert for two, without wine, and paid €108. That seemed reasonable for a Michelin restaurant. The food was okay, though it wasn’t quite to our taste. Dessert was definitely our favourite, and I’d recommend it. The smoked salmon, though, tasted like cigarettes and we didn’t enjoy it. I’m pregnant and can’t eat raw food, so I asked the waiter whether everything was cooked well done. He said yes, but some parts weren’t, and I couldn’t eat them. Service was extremely slow too. We were there nearly two and a half hours, even though the eating itself took only about 30 minutes. We were almost falling asleep while waiting. It was a nice experience to try once, but probably not somewhere we’d return to.

The food was great, but the service really let the meal down. We felt unwelcome, and several waiters treated us very badly, with a lot of “aire” about them. One waiter did make an effort and spoke Dutch with us. The sommelier, though, was very slow and spoke to us in a really unpleasant tone. We waited ages for our bottle so we could finish it, then another ten minutes for them to bring the payment machine.

I tried to leave a 4.4 rating, but Google no longer lets me. For the price and quality, though, it was a good meal overall. The presentation was high quality, and the dishes were simple but tasty. That kind of simplicity can work really well, and the cosy atmosphere added to it.

We had the five-course menu, and the food was amazing. The seabass and pigeon stood out in particular. Service was brilliant, and the location is lovely too. A fantastic experience.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely dinner at the Clos de Recollets, and it lived up to our expectations. The restaurant is cute, with one room that feels cosier and another that’s more modern. Both fit the feel of a high-end place. We chose three courses and added cheese. Every part of every plate worked for us, and we had nothing to complain about. The price felt fair, especially given how touristy Durbuy is. I’d definitely recommend it for a nice dinner.
