Stiemerheide - The Urban Hotel & Golf Retreat

Set among the forest, it's a quiet, peaceful spot with lovely rooms that have what you need. The food was very good, and there's also a Michelin-starred restaurant. It would work well for weddings, too. With golf, a pool, and wellness facilities, it's a nice place for a relaxing couples' break, though it's not cheap.

We had dinner at the Moonstone restaurant, and the Bib Gourmand meal was delicious and fairly priced. Service was good, although a few staff still seemed to be training. Breakfast was top-notch. The pool is large, clean, and heated. We had it to ourselves, and it was peaceful to relax on the sunbeds and look out through the big window at the green outdoors. Our room was cozy and nicely designed, if not very big. The bathroom was great, with toiletries, a professional hairdryer, aromatic soap, and body lotion. We slept well on the comfortable bed with pleasant linens. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the vanity mirror light. The attentive staff made us feel welcome from the first moment to the last. The hotel is well located in a region with lots to offer, near Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen for anyone who loves nature. We had a really positive stay and will definitely come back.

After a long drive from France, we were looking forward to a nice birthday dinner, but the meal never came. We'd been waiting an hour, and walked out with no food. We then had to find somewhere to eat late in an unfamiliar city. Luckily, we found an Italian Restaurant, which I'll review separately, so the birthday wasn't completely ruined. We were seated near the bar. It took at least half an hour to order because the waiter, Hub or Heb, seemed overwhelmed, running between the outdoor patio, bar, and kitchen. About 40-45 minutes after we arrived, four men came in, apparently regular customers and possibly golfers based on their tans and clothes. They sat in our area and were eating soon after. I assume they had special privileges and were friends with the other waiter. My husband found it offensive, both because the place seemed understaffed and because we felt discriminated against. I do appreciate that our waiter tried to talk to us and kept promising our food would eventually arrive, but the kitchen had put us last. The next morning, reception offered no compensation, not even breakfast or a discount. They simply don't care. The hotel is expensive for what it is. The room was okay, the bed comfortable enough, and the bathroom fine. Check-in was okay, though I was surprised to be offered a basement room looking onto grass in the backyard. There were very few vegetarian choices. This hotel clearly isn't for foreigners or people who aren't into golf and spending money regularly. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's not Belgian, a regular, or a golfer.

A pleasant hotel and golf resort in a lovely forest setting. They have a good e-bike tour through the woods and nearby villages. Lunch and dinner are excellent, and so is breakfast.
