The breakfast buffet was amazing, with a huge selection, and we really enjoyed it during our stay. But we ended up leaving two nights early and booking another hotel so we could sleep properly and get online to plan the rest of our time in Ghent. The first issue was the noise. The hotel is an older property, and while some people may find its quirks charming, we found that every single stair creaked. Our room was described as an upgrade, but the floor made noise with every step too. We felt bad just moving around, and even getting up to use the bathroom seemed likely to wake our partner or someone in the next room. It honestly made me anxious. The lobby was being renovated, the bar mentioned on the website wasn’t there, and the garden wasn’t accessible. Check in itself was smooth. The woman who checked us in was lovely, collected the city tax, and showed us to the room. The WiFi in our room didn’t work from the first day, and there was no connection point. At the lobby, we were told the city’s internet was down and might be back that afternoon. It was still out on Saturday. When we asked, we were told it was down and they’d come Tuesday to fix it. We had no local phone plan and expected to use the internet to plan activities and buy tickets, so being without it for most of our stay was a real problem. The male front desk employee came across as somewhat brusque at best. It may have been a language issue, but his words felt almost condescending.

The woman who welcomed me was really polite, but the afternoon guy seemed completely unqualified for reception work. After he saw my review here, he cancelled my booking, so I had to find another hotel. Awful service.

We had a lovely stay. The team were helpful and genuinely nice, and breakfast was generous. The hotel has a charming little garden out back, and it’s on a quiet street close to the historic center.

A short walk from town, with great value for money. The old building is beautiful, and our room was a good size. The bathroom was huge, and there was tea, coffee and water in the room. Breakfast had a fabulous selection.

The staff were incredibly kind, and the location was perfect. We loved our room with the Egyptian bath. It was really clean and very old, but well maintained. Breakfast was excellent. Such a charming, beautiful hotel, we’ll definitely come back!
