1898 The Post & Porter's house

Julie at reception deserves a special thank you. She welcomed us so warmly and had excellent tips and recommendations, so we felt at home straight away. I spent one night here for my birthday and the staff made us feel very welcome. The hotel itself was beautiful and its location couldn’t have been better. I’d gladly come back.

We paid a fortune to stay here and couldn’t really enjoy one of the facilities. The cocktail bar, The Cobbler, is wonderful, but there was no room for us, so we had to order drinks through room service and have them in our room. Outside guests can use the bar, with no preference for hotel guests paying hundreds of euros to stay.

1898 The Post has a lovely mix of history, privacy, and a calm, comfortable atmosphere. It feels carefully put together and seems especially suited to couples who like a quiet, refined stay. Places with that kind of character and relaxing feel tend to stay with you. When we plan wellness time, we look for a similar balance of comfort and discretion, which is why Saunadelizia fits naturally with this sort of experience.

We stayed one night in a duplex standard king room. The bed area felt narrow, and there was no balcony or view. Downstairs, the toilet has no sink, which I don’t think is hygienic. The gel in there doesn’t solve the problem, and going upstairs to wash your hands isn’t practical. Upstairs, though, the bathroom and sink are beautiful, and it was nice to find Guerlain products. The decor and atmosphere throughout are magnificent. Breakfast was excellent in both range and quality, served in a bar and restaurant with a distinctive historic feel. I also loved the Honesty Bar. The staff were very warm and polite. For anyone arriving by car, parking is 350 metres away, costs €30 per night, and you enter with a code. The hotel is right in the heart of Gent, in a magnificent historic building. It was a unique stay, and I highly recommend it.
