Hotel de Flandre

We paid for a room reservation two months ahead. Then, a week before the dates, the hotel told me it was closed and offered another hotel instead. I found out that someone was staying there during the same period. Maybe they had overbooked and thought a lie would solve it. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Our first-floor room overlooked a courtyard, and a large window opened partway onto the walkway around it. There was a table with a big parasol right outside, apparently for staff who smoked. Even at 10 at night, and in the rain, people were talking there by our window. The air conditioning also didn't work, though being there in December made that manageable. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with an ensuite bath and shower and plenty of hot water. We slept well and really enjoyed our time in gorgeous Ghent. The hotel is very well placed for the historic centre, and breakfast was delicious with lots of choice, if a little pricey.

We stayed in the suite, which had a nicely furnished room and a great location. Breakfast isn't worth it, though. A short walk gets you a better meal for about two-thirds of the price.

The fake flooring had a creaky feel that was a little unsettling. Apart from that, it was a comfortable, convenient stay, with nicely furnished rooms and a surprisingly spacious bathroom with a tub. It's right in the heart of Ghent, close to the main attractions, and reasonably priced.
