After our long drive from the Hague, the first thing that struck us was the calm: old wood, fresh air from the river and books, all quite relaxing. Christian and Kay have made a little bit of magic in Ghent with this B&B. They welcomed us warmly in the building's shared sitting room, then we took the gentle elevator up to the 3rd floor. Our apartment there was spotless, and the view was wonderful, with a castle opposite, the river and balcony in front, and church steeples behind. There were chairs, sofas and beds that made you want to nod off immediately. Kay said it's unusual to find a single night open on short notice. I'm glad we got one. I'd recommend it whether it's your first trip to Ghent or you've been many times.

The location made it easy to explore the city, take breaks during the day, and find restaurants just steps away. We loved the sitting room and its castle view across the street. Even with the crowds below and trains passing, the noise was manageable, and the bedroom was quieter thanks to a second door between it and the sitting room. The decor is beautiful and relaxing, and the tub was amazing. Having bath bubbles ready was such a nice extra. The hosts are among the kindest we've met and went well beyond what we'd expect, including her special breakfast treats every day. The main breakfast house is gorgeous. At first it felt a little odd to pass through tables where people were eating to get to the main door, but soon we stopped noticing. This is easily one of our favorite places we've stayed. Luxurious, comfortable, and we'd love to return.

The hosts were incredible, friendly and helpful, and clearly have their B&B down to a fine art. We would happily stay again and recommend it. The Ghent location is ideal for walking around, and the room was much better than the photos suggested, with loads of space and everything we could need. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. It went far beyond what we expected, easily the best B&B we've stayed in.

The castle view and convenient spot for exploring Gent made our weekend at De Waterzooi B&B especially lovely. Christian and Kay were so welcoming, and we were obsessed with Kay’s homemade yoghurt at breakfast. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a relaxing sitting area, a comfortable bedroom and a good-sized bathroom. We'd gladly recommend it and stay again on our next visit to Gent.

We stayed in the lodge, a whole two-bedroom apartment in a renovated 16th century house. The inside was unbelievably gorgeous, with a modern kitchen alongside the original wooden floor and casement windows. The owners were friendly and very helpful, with great tips for places to visit. The nearby cathedral's VR tour is worth doing, and the castle opposite is great too. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants around, plus a chocolate store next door that also serves breakfast. A tram stop right opposite goes straight to the train station. Stunning find and great value.
