ibis Gent Centrum St-Baafs Kathedraal

You're close to the architecture, sights and restaurants, right in the heart of Gent. If you need parking, remember to request it. There are also garages nearby. Watch out for the Low Emmission charges: you need to register within 24hrs, and it seems the fees for UK cars are quite steep.

The location is fabulous, just steps from St. Baafs cathedral. Most of Ghent's highlights are walkable, and a tram stop is only about 5 minutes away. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. The room was cozy by American standards, and I heard some noise from the rooms above and next door. I'm not sure whether there's AC, but luckily it cooled down at night.

The location is the big plus, with the city's main attractions just 5 minutes away and a more central spot being hard to find. Staff were attentive, polite and always tried to help. As with Ibis hotels, you know what to expect. The room was small but comfortable and cozy, everything worked well and it was well insulated. The garage entrance is tight, so inexperienced drivers or anyone with a very large car might struggle, but the parking spaces themselves are okay.

We had such a good time, and the friendly staff helped make it a great stay. We started in a standard room, which was fine if you just need a bed, then upgraded to a premium room for Xmas. That made a big difference for a longer stay. The hotel is right by the Xmas Market, which was the main draw. If you're driving, pre-register your vehicle or you could face a penalty of up to €150 for driving straight to the hotel. Parking is available for an extra fee. We used public parking a few km away and took the tram, with no more than a 5 min walk at the end. They'll see us again!
