Marriott Hotel Ghent

We had a mini fridge and robes in our room, which was just the right size, and the beds and pillows were really comfortable. The Marriott’s canal-side location is amazing, just steps from Gent’s center and surrounded by shops, restaurants and monuments. My friend and I spent five nights here over Christmas, and it was one of my most memorable Marriott stays. The front desk team were welcoming and helpful from mobile check-in through the end of the trip, especially Megan. Everyone else was friendly and on top of things, too. We enjoyed a few evenings at the bar, where the staff were wonderful, and breakfast most mornings was great, with equally good service. I travel a lot and will definitely be back. Thank you!

The location is great, and the rooms are nice and functional, but the stay was underwhelming. We arrived around 2 PM, before check-in, so reception held our bags while we went to eat. The room wasn’t ready until almost 5 PM. I’d booked a king bed, but they said they had upgraded us to an Executive room with a queen bed, and didn’t tell us about the change at check-in. Then the WiFi wouldn’t connect. After I called reception, they said they were having problems and gave me a code to use. That’s a lot of things to get wrong.

The lack of communication from management was deeply disappointing, especially given the financial issue. Guests’ money should be handled with care and respect, and this incident showed the opposite. It falls short of what I’d reasonably expect from a Marriott property. We booked two rooms through the official Marriott website for Ghent Marriott Hotel, reservation number 83932420, for the night of January 1 to January 2, 2026. We cancelled within the allowed period and followed the stated terms, yet nearly €500 was charged. We caught it only because we were monitoring our accounts closely. I wrote to both the hotel manager and the manager on duty right away, but neither replied. A front desk employee was the only one to respond, saying a refund would come shortly. Ten days later, it still hadn’t been resolved. I’ve travelled extensively for over 25 years, personally and for work, booking around 100 hotel nights a year. This is the first time I’ve had an experience like this, and it’s even harder to accept because the booking was made through Marriott’s official site.

The room had plenty of space for our two-year-old to walk around, and the amenities and toiletries were supplied in adequate quantities. We drove from Germany, so the basement parking was useful, and it also had an EV charging station. Service was very good, as was the quality of the breakfast, though the selection was smaller than I expected. The location was great for the price we paid, and I can’t complain about it. We had a very good experience at this hotel.
