The charismatic host made our stay memorable, and Shelter 7 has a calm, sophisticated feel. It’s a beautifully considered place, with masterful design and a distinctive atmosphere right in the heart of Ghent. Thank you (Arigatou) for such a wonderful stay!

An artistic, one-of-a-kind and romantic place to stay. If you want an authentic spot in the heart of Gent and to wake up beneath the Cathedral and Belfort, this is the place.

The neighborhood is lovely, and Shelter7 is superbly located. The house itself is an artistic statement, shaped around the Wabi aesthetic that Alex Vervoort and the friendly owner, Vincent, care so much about. It’s meticulously planned and feels like living inside a work of art, but that comes with constraints. Don’t expect ultimate comfort or a five-star experience. You have to embrace this Japanese-inspired minimalist way of life to enjoy the stay. We loved it, though I’m not sure it’ll suit everyone.
