Yalo Urban Boutique Hotel Ghent

We loved the breakfast, and the rooftop bar was a great extra. The location is excellent, too. Great hotel, and we’d happily come back and recommend it.

Our starters set a high bar: the oysters, black truffle flammkuchen, and pork belly were all excellent, full of flavor, and well prepared. The main courses didn’t come close. The lamb tajine was too sour for us, the lamb meatballs were dry and hard to justify at €40, and the glazed BBQ chicken was noticeably dry as well. We barely touched the mains. We told the staff how we felt. They explained that the tajine is meant to be sour because it has lemon, and said nobody had complained about the chicken before. We understand that a flavor can be intentional, but the dishes still seemed unbalanced and weren’t enjoyable. They offered us a digestif, which we appreciated. We came for dinner as a family and left with mixed feelings. The kitchen clearly can do excellent work, as the starters showed. I think they should be more open to guest feedback and look again at the main courses so the quality and value are consistent at this price.

We booked two rooms for three nights, and our family group covered a wide range of ages. Everyone had a great stay. The receptionist was friendly and seemed genuinely hospitable, and the welcome was spot on. The hotel is really well designed and just a few minutes from the historic center. Highly recommend it.

The restaurant was good enough that I ate there both nights, and there are bakeries, coffee shops, and historic sights within walking distance. The modern hotel is comfortable, and the welcome was friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived. Check-in was quick and easy. I stayed two nights in November. My room was a standard European size, with a very comfortable bed, coffee, a kettle, and a cool retro record player and records. I didn’t get a chance to try the player. I’d definitely recommend the hotel if you’re visiting Ghent.
