The room was a really generous size, with space for 5-6 people, a sofa for four, and a round table. There’s also a coffee machine with free coffee. This B&B is in a semi-basement, and the bathroom was roomy and clean. Its door was separated from the outside, though, and made a loud noise every time we used it, which was inconvenient. Gravensteen Castle is a five-minute walk away, and the city centre takes less than ten minutes on foot. The host was friendly, and parking in front of the building was free. A spot isn’t guaranteed, though, so we were anxious on the way there in case there was nowhere to park.

Breakfast in the cafe was excellent. The B&B sits behind the only independent cafe in Gent, with no brewery contracts, so you can order whatever beer you like. You’ll also meet people coming into the bar since the B&B is right behind it. That may or may not suit you. The bar owner’s quite a character, and worth spending a while talking to, or listening to.

The owner was really friendly, and we had a nice big room with three large double beds. I stayed with my brother and dad. The clock needs a new battery.

Our room was huge, almost like a flat, and the place was quiet. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the historic centre and its sights. We stayed for one night and will be back.
