Hôtel L'ermitage

The rooms were nice and new, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder. Dinner was delicious, though it took a long time to arrive, and the wait was worth it. Breakfast the next morning was a lovely continental spread. I’d booked because we planned to visit the Achouffe brewery the following morning. Room prices were very high, but there weren’t many alternatives, so I decided to splurge. We turned out to be the only guests, which makes sense at those prices. For that much, I could have stayed in a 5-star hotel. I also didn’t see any bike rental options, although the website advertised them, and we would have used them.

Room #1 had a very good bed, made up of two singles pushed together, and a lovely bathroom with a bath. It’s an old building, so you can hear people moving around, but it generally wasn’t a problem. The recently refurbished hotel has a restaurant that’s recently reopened and serves excellent food; breakfast also has plenty of choices. For a hotel listed as 2 stars, or 3 depending on where you look, this is a real little gem.

The evening’s four-dish menu was outstanding, and the room was lovely. The young family working here were super nice, and the price was very affordable, around 85 per person for the night and two meals. It made for a very romantic evening and was my best experience this year. I’ll certainly return next year.

We stopped in for a late lunch and had a wonderful meal. The views of the river were great, and the chef was very accommodating. Fantastic place, highly recommend!
