Wu Wei

We were able to book at the last minute, and the receptionist was kind and thoughtful when we arrived. Bathrobes were included, and the location gives easy access to the city by bike or car and to the train station. Still, I felt more of the "non-doing" than the "effort-less action" in Wu Wei. The rooms have no air conditioning, the pool wasn't very clean, and the bath towels were falling apart. Time in the wellness area is limited, which felt a bit stingy, though that was clearly explained from the start, so fair enough. Coming back from our one-hour morning spa session, we found the room door open even though we'd locked it. Probably a cleaner's mistake, and nothing was missing, but it felt awkward and could have turned out badly. Be especially careful with the small print if you book with Bongo, which cost us 139 €, particularly for a weekend. What seemed all-inclusive quickly became a list of extra charges: 25 € for a weekend booking, 10 € for parking, x € per person for spa slippers, and 7 € per person for the Flemish breakfast. In the usual setting, breakfast is just coffee, a chocolate pastry, and a croissant. If you haven't paid attention, you can't actually upgrade it on the spot. Having each cost added separately felt like a salami tactic, making us swallow the bill in layers. For a place presented as four stars, I'd expect a clear all-in price that made us feel welcomed and cared for. I'd much rather have been told up front that it was "50 € on top of your bongo" than keep hearing that each thing costs extra.

The food was nowhere near fresh, the spa is old, and the staff were rude. The place wasn't hygienic at all. How does it still exist? Stay away.

I booked this as a birthday present for my girlfriend. She enjoyed her massage, but the room was clearly not clean and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. We showed the photos at breakfast and were told, "yes it was cleaned" ...

The spa is old and not very well maintained, but the duo massage was the part I couldn't get over. We paid 160€ or 180€, I can't remember which, for an hour. My husband and I booked it to enjoy a massage together, but there was only one therapist for both of us. So each of us got about 30 minutes, while the other half hour was spent waiting for her to massage the other person. I just lay there and fell asleep. Seriously, did we pay to sleep? This isn't service, it's a nightmare!
