The biggest issue for me was the money. We had already paid for breakfast when booking, but the hotel later admitted charging us twice by mistake and promised a refund. After that, another 100 euros was taken from the card. We called politely, waited a long time, and were told again it was an error and all the money would be returned. They did refund the 100 euros a few hours later, but never returned the extra breakfast charge. For three days we called every day and got polite-sounding, absent-minded responses. It isn't just about the money, it's the principle. The deposit also hadn't been returned after we left, and we felt ripped off. At check-in, they said our booked room couldn't be provided because of heating problems, and the chocolates we'd paid for were unavailable because they'd run out. The hotel was in poor condition and freezing cold too. The way these people handled it felt dishonest, arrogant, and rude, with no integrity. Stay far away from this awful place.

The rooms are beautiful, and the conference facilities are laid out well. But the vegetarian food was awful. At a two-day workshop, vegetable risotto was the only main course offered for both lunch and dinner. Some rooms also have a bath but no shower.

I spent hours dealing with directions and ended up with two 100 euro fines. Roadworks had made the parking inaccessible, and when I called reception, the man suggested a place where parking was only allowed until 6pm, even though I had booked an overnight stay. At the hotel, he gave me a map to the hotel's parking and said there were directions at every corner. Some corners had signs forbidding entry, but I followed the direction markers and went in anyway. That poor guidance led me down a street I shouldn't have entered.

My stay could have been good, but the daily sight of birds, including pigeons and magpies, flying into the windows and slowly dying in the yard ruined it for me. Clear stickers on the windows could easily address this, yet management refuses to put them up.

The bar staff made our evening. We had wine at Martin's Klooster to celebrate my wife's birthday, but no corkscrew. The smiling woman at the bar opened the bottle, put it in an ice bucket, and gave us two glasses to take back to our room. Her thoughtfulness really added a glow to the evening. Thank you.
