Le Monte Cristo

The restaurant has lost the class it had when I visited years ago. We booked an anniversary dinner expecting a high end culinary experience, but there was nobody at the restaurant or reception to greet us, so we had to track someone down. One young woman was handling bookings, serving tables, and looking after the hotel and payments. The food arrived in bits: first the meat without fries, then the fries, and the sauce another five minutes later. It was average, and there were very few customers. This used to be a high end restaurant with professional waiters, lovely food, and a great atmosphere. Now it feels like an average diner with a printed menu on a paper placemat. I wouldn't celebrate another meaningful occasion here.

I'm sorry to leave bad feedback again. I sent a previous client here, but she never explained why she disliked the place. This time my client photographed the crumbling paint on her room wall, and an overcooked hard boiled egg with an oxidized yolk. It looked like the egg had been boiled days earlier and wasn't fresh. At 110 €, the price is far too high for the service. I won't send clients here anymore. If I had to say something positive, the outside looks better than the inside.

The room was clean, and the location worked well for my business trip. I ate at the hotel and thought the food was good. Hot water ran out very quickly, though. It was fine for traveling solo for work, but I wouldn't suggest it for a family vacation.

The crooked floors are part of what makes this hotel unusual, but they creak terribly wherever you walk. Staff seemed quite nice, and the stay was more or less satisfying. Still, not having an elevator, and having no help with luggage up the two very tall floors, took away from the picturesque feel.
