The renovation is nicely done, and breakfast was great. Our front-facing room got noisy from the tram line and traffic when the window was open, but closing it made things fine. Parking is around the back, with a separate Google listing for navigation.

The room was spacious and, apart from the issues we encountered, what I would expect for the price. The hotel has been "newly" renovated, but only lightly and mostly cosmetically, in a way that fits its market. It doesn't seem to try to do more than its competitors. Management lets it down, with too little day-to-day oversight. Lights should work, room safes should function, parking should be managed properly, housekeeping supplies should match room occupancy, and reasonable guest problems should be handled proactively. Those are basic expectations. If I owned the hotel, I'd reconsider the on-site management. As a guest, I wouldn't book again because I couldn't trust that the advertised service would actually be delivered on arrival or during a future stay.

I was in room 523, and at 8 a.m. on Sunday the housekeepers cleaning 522 left their cart right behind my door. It was extremely noisy and ended my chance to rest. Getting to the breakfast hall on the first floor was quite ridiculous: housekeepers were cleaning there too, and two carts blocked the route. There were no signs pointing to breakfast, and the corridor smelled of eggs. The breakfast itself wasn't very good. I'm also disappointed that jam, Nutella, and honey no longer come in individual portions. People touch the spoons in the containers, then handle their breakfast bread with those same hands.

The rooms feel like they're from another century, with dated furniture, colours, and layout, though that's understandable while renovations are underway. In a way, the old style has some charm, and I can imagine the rooms matching the rest of the hotel once the work is done. The Mercure Hotel makes an interesting mix of old and new. Its stunning exterior and entrance hall feel modern, clean, timeless, warm, and welcoming, with an upscale boutique feel that isn't cold or overdesigned. The lobby is beautifully styled and well lit, and the calm, professional atmosphere makes you feel that details are taken care of. Despite the older rooms, everything else runs smoothly and seems well maintained. Cleanliness is top notch, amenities are solid, and the mood is relaxed but professional. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location works for both leisure and business. Even now it's a pleasant place to stay, and after renovations it could be a real gem.
