Sleeping right next to the German military cemetery feels deeply disrespectful. Most of those soldiers had no choice but to join the army, and they gave their lives even though they didn’t want to. So yes, you can “nicely” sleep beside it. What a location.

We’d really looked forward to the stay, but after arriving late, we spent three hours trying to get through to the accommodation without success. We were eventually helped, though the woman who assisted us didn’t speak Dutch. The room wasn’t what the online listing described. We’d requested eight single beds and a bathroom in the room, but got two separate bedrooms with bunk beds and shared toilets and showers in the hallway. There were spiders too. At breakfast, our sandwiches and bread were still frozen. This might suit a school group, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for a weekend away.

The hostel is in a good location, though comfort is very limited. The men’s and women’s showers aren’t separate, the breakfast buffet is very basic, and dinner is worse than food in a barracks.

It’s next to a World War II cemetery for German soldiers, an impressive sight with 39,000 graves, mostly young soldiers who died. The food was good, the service was good, and the staff were very friendly. Keep up the good work!

Our car was broken into while we were out walking in the neighborhood. The people here took great care of us afterward.
