The room looked nice, but it was pretty dirty. It didn’t seem to have been dusted in years, the towels smelled moldy, and the coffee maker was full of sludge. Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out, which was a problem since the TV uses streaming. There’s no 24/7 service either. On my first night the fire alarm sounded at midnight, but I couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel, and the fire brigade took almost an hour to arrive. One of the worst places I’ve stayed in Mons.

The hotel is in a great spot in Mons, and the rooms are modern and nice, which makes this a shame. I’d paid in full through Booking before arriving, but when I got there at 9:30 pm on the first night, the door was locked and a note told me to call a number to check in. Nobody answered. My colleague eventually managed to get through to them, but I had to book somewhere else that night and only checked in the following day. It’s been over 2 weeks, and they still haven’t worked with Booking to refund the first night. They told my colleague they had “overbooked,” and they haven’t responded to me or Booking.

The place looked nice, but we couldn’t stay there and had to find somewhere else. We’d booked and paid in advance through booking.com, but the hotel kept bookings in a paper diary and hadn’t transferred ours, so they were full when we arrived. Contact them directly to check before you go.

The location made it easy to explore the city, and the bed was soft and comfortable. The hotel has a distinctive modern style, and the elevator can fit two people with luggage. Our room was tiny, though the furniture was nice, and I didn’t care for the open shower design. There’s no air conditioning, so we kept the windows open and heard pigeons all night. We didn’t try breakfast.

The restaurant was fantastic, and the staff were amazing. Our room exceeded what I expected, too. L’Olivier is just a few steps from the town center, close to the bars and entertainment, and parking was easy in the garage around the corner. I’d absolutely stay here again next time I’m in Mons.
