Château de Namur

We felt very lucky to stay at the Chateau and are already looking forward to coming back. Namur charmed us too: it’s an attractive, relaxed and friendly city, with lovely people, good transport connections, and plenty to see. The Chateau itself is a beautiful building on remarkable grounds at the highest point in Namur. Our room was small, but it was the only one available when we booked; larger rooms and suites are usually available too. It was elegant and sumptuously decorated, with an enormous bed and crisp white linen. Staff were consistently helpful and flexible, and either spoke several languages or patiently put up with our terrible French. Breakfast had lots of well-prepared, good-quality options. Best of all was lunch, cooked and served by students from the School of Gastronomy: exquisite dishes, good wine, professional service, and incredible value for what we got. The one small downside is getting there on foot from the city. The roads climb through mostly unlit woodland, so you’ll want strong legs and a torch if you’re not driving. Taxis in town are plentiful and not expensive.

We stopped in for lunch and found the place classy, with impeccable service and delicious food. It’s on the expensive side, and we didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms. If you’re nearby, it’s worth checking out. Be sure to reserve in advance.

The room was a little shabby, but comfortable. Breakfast was more than ample, and the food was great. It’s expensive, but for a one-night stay it was well worth it since driving into town would’ve been a hassle.

I was really happy with our stay. Everyone was helpful and made it pleasant. We managed to eat at the hotel, and the food was excellent. I can’t praise the service enough.
