B&B Le Relais du Moustier

We spent a lovely time in the garden, especially with the good weather. There were fresh fruits and vegetables, and the homemade jam was great. They even let us pick some fruit. Breakfast was in their living room and kitchen, and we could sort it out for the next morning when we arrived. We’d shown up later than planned, but that wasn’t an issue. The room was beautiful and had tea and coffee. The bathroom is shared, which was fine for us. We got a very hospitable welcome, despite what some other reviews said. Highly recommended!

We were left waiting outside for about ten minutes after ringing the bell. When the lady finally came to the door, she said she was on the phone and shut it again, telling us to wait. We were already 15 minutes later than agreed, and she seemed annoyed that we’d kept her waiting so long. We’d brought €80 worth of meat for four people because the listing said there would be a barbecue. When we asked, she said there wasn’t one and suggested we look for one in the woods, which we weren’t going to do. We also couldn’t put the meat in her fridge to keep it from spoiling, and there was no room for our drinks either. It was nearly 30 degrees. She didn’t answer when we asked about using the swimming pool. We said we’d have to find somewhere else, or the meat would go to waste. She said she’d rather be alone, told us to leave, and said we still had to pay her. Terrible experience. Don’t book!

We left at 9:00 without breakfast, even though we’d paid for it. At 8:30 nobody was up. When we came downstairs with our suitcase, she appeared in her pajamas. I told her how disappointed we were, but she didn’t reply, and she never answered my message afterwards either. The room had several problems: the TV didn’t work, and the remote wouldn’t switch off the light, so we slept with it on. The pool was out of order, and she said there was a lake nearby, but we spent four hours looking behind the lake and couldn’t find it. I suspect that was one of the made-up claims I’d seen in other reviews. She didn’t answer my call asking her to show me on Google Maps, or my text. We arrived around 3:00 PM, earlier than the 5:00 PM check-in time, but had been told our luggage was no problem. On arrival she seemed overwhelmed, saying she hadn’t eaten because the gas had run out and her husband had gone to get more. She handed us a key in a hurry, without telling us which room was ours or showing us around. We left without knowing how to get to the garden. There was nowhere we could use a fridge, despite the 30-degree heat. I’d also asked several times by email about the free bicycles advertised when I booked. My question was ignored, then I was told to call a number and pay a small fee to use bikes. I sent a screenshot showing the booking.com listing said they were free, but got no answer. They came back at 1:48 at night, and I was already dreading the breakfast I’d paid for. We shouldn’t have booked. Nothing but hassle and lost money. The TV and lights didn’t work properly, the pool was broken, the promised bikes weren’t there, and breakfast never came. This doesn’t feel like hosting, just easy money.

The way I was treated was incredibly rude, and I lost my money without getting a weekend away. I’d booked two rooms before lockdown and paid a €180 deposit. Because of the pandemic and the restrictions around it, I had to postpone twice, which was already hard to understand. Once things finally allowed us to plan a stay, I was told the reservation had been canceled and was nearly called a profiteer for trying to use my deposit to book. A really unpleasant customer experience.
