Europe Hotel

For the price we paid, it was comfortable and good value. But Hotel Europe calls itself a four-star hotel, and that really isn’t the case.

The breakfast and location were the only things I really liked. I was fooled by the photos and the location, and for the price the stay was a disappointment. The hotel needs renewing. The room was fairly clean, but I still found a few hairs, and both the room and elevator smelled like damp socks, probably because the carpet wasn’t cleaned properly. There weren’t enough plugs for electrical devices, and the receptionist wasn’t especially friendly. The so-called gym is just a basement room with three machines and no ventilation. If you’re over 1.90m tall, you can’t use it because the ceiling is so low. It’s only open from 8am-9pm. I didn’t try the spa because it was open for just four hours, and after the sock smell around the hotel, I wasn’t eager to see it. I won’t be back.

The location was excellent, just a short walk from the beach and with great restaurants all around. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room was decent and clean enough, though the pillows were quite uncomfortable.

I usually don’t leave reviews at all, especially negative ones, but this was too bad to keep to myself. We drove from the UK after our flight to Majorca was cancelled and wanted to be as close to the beach as possible. It was a last-minute booking, so we paid €900 for two nights and two rooms, which was quite expensive compared with other nearby hotels, but we went ahead. The hotel advertises itself as 4*, though I’d rate it 3*. The facilities were fairly clean, but the place felt dated, like a converted apartment building. We were travelling with two babies and needed two cots. We booked ahead and called reception to make sure they’d be available. After checking in and sorting our luggage, I called reception and got a rude, condescending response telling me to come downstairs. Marcus then said there were no cots and we needed to order them at least two weeks in advance. I explained that this wasn’t what I’d been told when I called before booking. He said there was nothing he could do because he was on the night shift, told me to go back to my room and stop wasting his time. When I asked his name, he wouldn’t tell me. I asked for his manager, but he refused to give anyone’s name and aggressively told me to go away. That’s no way to speak to a customer. The next day, another, more helpful person at reception gave me his name. Be careful booking here, as you might have a similar experience.
