Hotel De Spiegel

I had a terrible stay and experienced theft, which left me feeling that the hotel couldn’t be trusted. The beds were dirty and smelled stale, and the staff were rude and made me feel unwelcome. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, unhygienic and uninhabitable. I’ll never come back, and I strongly advise others to stay away.

The room was unbearably hot. The heater was running at full power and couldn’t be adjusted, even though it was 21°C outside and the sun was warming the room to around 27°C. We had to sleep with the balcony door open, but an open-air event nearby made it loud. I asked the next day for the heater to be turned off and was told it would be handled. It wasn’t, so we had to sleep with the door open again. Check-in took ages, and we had to wait again because only one of our two keycards worked on the door. The room also wasn’t what we expected: they told us at check-in it had no TV, even though one had been advertised. We had to fetch our own towels, which meant waiting for a third time. I know the hotel is cheap, but that doesn’t make up for all the hassle. I won’t book it again.

For under $60 a night, I’d stay here again if I were back in town. You get what you pay for, and you could spend twice as much for something better. The location worked well, with restaurants across the street. I ate at Jacks pizza and got a good deal on a delicious pizza. The room was a decent size, with a fridge, closet, standard-sized TV with a few channels, and a bathroom with a tub. The furniture was old, just a couple of hotel ballroom chairs and a table. The bed was too hard for my taste, though I still slept fine. Check-in and communication with reception were no problem. The old elevator worked, and there are only three floors if you’d rather take the stairs. Street parking is free from 6pm to 9am, then costs a few dollars an hour. I also really liked the huge windows that open all the way. I took pictures of the view, but none inside the room.

AVOID THIS PLACE! The walls had strange stains everywhere, and there were ants all over my bed. Super dirty and disgusting.
