Hotel Verviers Van der Valk

If you have allergies, I hope you see this and stay alert when ordering here. I told the restaurant about my nut allergy. The menu asks guests to mention allergies, and I was told a note would go to the kitchen with anything I ordered to make sure it had no nuts. My half chicken came with chips, salad and apple sauce. I spotted what looked like a nut in the salad, but didn't want to make a fuss in case it was only slight cross contamination. I left the salad and ate the rest. Later I ordered banana ice cream. When I gave my order to the woman, a man told her to note that I had a nut allergy. But the ice cream arrived covered in walnuts. I had to send it back because I would have had an allergic reaction. I'm unhappy with the service. They say they can accommodate allergies, but what happened tonight didn't show that clearly.

We lost an hour here. I asked at least three times to order, but nobody came, and after bringing drinks they seemed to forget about us. When we asked to pay for the drinks and complained, we finally got to place our order, and the first round of drinks was free. The staff were kind after that, but the service had been very bad.

We come back to this fantastic hotel every year and plan to keep doing that for the foreseeable future. The indoor pool and jacuzzi are wonderful additions.

The loft setup makes for a unique stay, and opening the loft windows brought in a lovely morning breeze. If your room is on the 3rd floor, you have to climb stairs to get up to the loft. The shower, if you get a room with that option, is quite short. I'm only 1.9 meters tall and had to squat to wash.
