Julie's Place

The place has a calm, pleasant feel and is spotless. The rooms are very clean and well maintained, and there’s parking for the car. Fantastic location, definitely worth it. I highly recommend staying here and can’t wait to return!

Shops are about ten minutes away by car, and the location is pleasant, with lovely houses around Julie’s home. It was a handy stop between Calais and Nuremberg, though I wouldn’t suggest coming without a car. Julie is sweet, but she only speaks Flemish, so our attempts to talk were mostly confused, sympathetic nods. I don’t expect people in another country to speak English, but it’s something to keep in mind. The room was decent for the price, but it needs a lot of work before I’d recommend it. The pillows were extremely thin, and we couldn’t ask for extras because Julie only speaks Flemish. It was unbearably hot, so we left the windows open all night. They only open a little, which meant no airflow. Instead, we got deafening frog sounds and mosquitoes. Every 15 minutes we’d hear one, turn on the lights, and kill it. Blood streaks on the walls made it clear we weren’t the first to deal with them. For me to recommend the place, it would need better pillows, a fan, and a bug screen on the window. Having Google Translate ready during the tour would help too.

It was cold, with no heating apart from a little that I managed to get on in the evening. The place was a bit filthy, and I’m not sure the bed linen had been changed.
