Hotel Althea

We were in room 400, where the bathroom drain barely worked, though that was a minor issue. The walls were thin, and the restaurant was always crowded, with practically the same menu throughout our 10-day stay. The beach is far, and getting back means walking uphill. At checkout, a receptionist chased us with scissors to cut off our bracelets, explaining that it was so we wouldn't get free food. There was a hole on the balcony beside the A/C where a family of sqrats, a mix of rats and squirrels, seemed to live. I was horrified to see them crossing the balcony rail back and forth, and later that night we could hear them above us. We changed rooms to get away from the rodents. The lift made a loud noise and shook between the third and fourth floors. When we entered the lobby bar, a strong smell of sweat, cheap alcohol, and urine hit us. The restaurant manager Dora was kind to me, so I got black tea for breakfast.

This hotel is very old and has no facilities. The staff at reception don't speak English, and the rooms have a persistent weird smell. The toilet was a disaster, and if you book all-inclusive, expect a surprise with the food. Parking costs 10 leva per day, plus another 10 leva in location tax, which seems like too much. I didn't have a very nice experience here.

Service was good, but they gave us just one set of towels and bed sheets and wouldn't replace them, even when we asked.

Everything felt old, and the rooms weren't very clean. For an all-inclusive place, they didn't even have ice for drinks. Not worth the money.
