Hotel Maraya

We stopped in for coffee, but ours arrived ice cold. The baklava I ordered with it wasn’t tasty either. It was like sugar water with a bit of rose flavor.

A small, tidy, cozy hotel. Clean, too. I recommend it! The unique tavern "Payaka" is very close by.

The owners are lovely people, and the hotel is cozy and very nice. Our room was extremely clean and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious, and we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t a buffet. When we left, they gave us a magnet with a picture of the hotel, a small, thoughtful gesture. We’d be happy to stay here again.

The hotel is right in the center of Arbanasi, close to the old capital, V. Tarnovo. The oldest houses in Arbanasi are built entirely of stone and look like small fortresses, the kind you can’t see elsewhere in Bulgaria. By royal decree, the village was made a resort in 1921 and a historic settlement of national importance in 2000. It’s an architectural museum with 144 restored houses, five churches with richly decorated interiors, and two monasteries. The hotel has double rooms and two duplex apartments, all cozily furnished with private terraces. Rooms come with a minibar, direct-dial phone, high-speed internet, LCD TV with cable channels, central heating, air conditioning, a bathroom with shower cabin and hairdryer, and access to a safe at reception. The apartments are on two levels, with separate rooms.
