Park Hotel Sevastokrator

There was plenty of parking, and the staff were friendly. We had a delicious breakfast, and the spacious, modern room was spotless, including the bathroom. It had a view over Veliko Tarnovo, a great bed, and a good shower.

My car was hit by another guest in the parking lot, and there was no camera or help, so I can't recommend the place. Some restaurant staff were very rude and got our orders wrong or forgot them. The dishes were average, portions small, and prices high.

The view and location are magnificent, and there's plenty of space, terraces, restaurants, and facilities that could make this a great place to relax or have fun. But the price is the only thing that seems to match that potential. The main buildings we stayed, ate and relaxed in feel like a large, outdated guesthouse. I can't say how the newer buildings look inside, but these have been worn down well past any charming patina. Taps, doors, furniture, towels and equipment are all in poor shape. The taps were broken and unpleasant to touch, the mini-fridge gasket was blackened, possibly moldy, and none of the towels matched. I don't mean it's a house of horrors, but the claims the place makes seem justified only by the setting and view, which aren't the owner's achievement. Everything else has been used beyond an acceptable limit.

I often bring guests to the restaurant because it's pleasant and has one of the area's best views. This visit was a real disappointment. We waited a long time with no attention, then waited again for soft drinks and coffee, then for something they'd forgotten, and again for another forgotten item. After that the waiter paid us no attention. I tried for 15 minutes to get their attention, then went inside for the bill. They'd made it cash only without asking, which was a real hassle since we only had cards and had to get creative to sort it out.
