Alafrangite Hotel

The terrace is pleasant for breakfast, and the location makes it easy to walk around the Old Town. Getting there by car is awkward, though you can reserve a space in the owner’s garage. Our room was only just adequate, with several wobbly or broken pieces of furniture. The shower fell off the wall. One staff member was surly at breakfast and got cross when we asked for a hotter cup of tea.

Breakfast was great, with eggs cooked to order and a big cheese selection. We had no trouble arriving by car, and there’s a huge double garage with room for six cars. Contrabass, our favourite local bar and dinner spot, was conveniently close. Capana and downtown Plovdiv are walkable too, if your legs can handle the climb!

The staff were kind and very polite, and the hotel was very clean with a beautiful little garden. The location is great if you don’t have a car. Driving there, though, is a nightmare. Our TV looked 20-plus years old and didn’t work. The bathroom handle was broken, and one of us got locked in there. Breakfast was very basic. For the price, I’d give it 2.5/5 stars.

It’s calm and clean, with a lovely garden where you can read or have a coffee. Breakfast was great, just as promised, and the tea was delicious. I’d always wanted to spend a night in Plovdiv’s old town, and this was a great location with good service.
