Mountain Paradise 2 - Quiet Cosy Studio - Balcony, Wifi

We booked three nights but left after the second. The housekeeper never came during our stay, and we had to walk around in our shoes after the bathroom flooded. The shower drain was blocked, and there were no slippers, which seemed odd for a four star spa hotel. The room was cold, and the shower apparently needed a special trick to work. When we told reception, a polite, friendly man came to help and said he'd look for a heater, but we never heard from him again. The fridge had been left in the middle of the room; we put it back in its space by the kitchen and plugged it in, only to find it didn't work. Opening it revealed a rotten smell.

The bar guy and the woman at reception were the two bright spots for me. He seemed to care about how guests were doing, and she was nice and helpful. Most of the other staff came across as completely indifferent. The rest of my stay at Mountain Paradise in Bansko was grim. The furniture was old, dirty and broken, the toilets were disgusting, and the food was poor and seemed to have been sitting around for ages. Even the beer served in the all-inclusive light program was stale. Mountain Paradise might suit someone after an old, grimy medieval feel. If you care about basic cleanliness or have any self-respect, I'd avoid it.

Getting around was easy, since the hotel is close to both the village and the ski lifts, and I never needed a taxi. The rest was a huge disappointment, and I don't think it deserves four stars. There were curtains with blood on them, broken furniture and hangers, and no cutlery despite clear instructions to prepare your own food. The heat was far too high, cleaning staff were nowhere to be found and never cleaned, and we got only one roll of toilet paper per day. I never managed to use the spa, and when I checked out, I saw that the pool and hot tub were closed. I wouldn't recommend it.

There was little or no choice on the dinner menu, and the maid never came during our three days to clean, take out rubbish, or replace towels and toilet paper. The fridge didn't work and we had no cutlery at all. The rooms were much too hot, and without a net on the balcony door, bugs could get in. The walls were thin, and most door handles were broken, so opening and closing the doors was difficult.
