Hotel Sunrise Park

The location is hard to beat, with the town center and gondola queue about a five minute walk away. Drinks were very cheap too, less than €3 for a pint. I booked this for my first ski holiday and was trying to keep costs down, so the price was a real surprise in a good way. The room was clean and tidy, though not under the bed, and there were a few small maintenance issues: the TV remote had no back, buttons were missing from the heating thermostat, and the bathroom mirrors were corroded. Individually minor, but together they didn’t make the best impression. I’d stay again without hesitation because of the location. I’d also move breakfast from 7:30 to 7 so skiers can reach the lifts earlier. I’m already thinking about coming back.

The staff were nice and the place itself was really pleasant. The rooms are simple and basic, though, and the hotel feels like it hasn’t been renovated for a long time. There’s room to improve the facilities and the overall experience. Breakfast was just average.

We went over New Year, and the hotel rental shop had fair prices. You could buy a lift pass at reception, and the hotel shuttle ran from 8am, with returns until 5pm. We could just about make it after skiing down from the last lift; if you miss it, the walk is around ten minutes. Breakfast was tasty and had a good spread, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. Our apartment was simple but fine for four, though the kitchenette had no plates or cutlery. We asked for some, but they were taken away the next day. The steam room and sauna were good after skiing, and closing at 7pm worked for us. The main drawback was breakfast starting at 8am. The first gondola runs at 8:30, and the queue was about an hour when we were there unless you got there early. You can pay 13Lv each for a shuttle to skip the gondola, but breakfast really needs to start at 7:30. We gave that feedback, but the hotel stuck to its schedule and didn’t take it on board. Decent place, but not luxurious, and those breakfast hours make skiing harder.

The shuttle service is great, and the gondola station is 300-400 meters away. But our four person room came with just one room card, and when we asked for another, we were told that’s all they have. That’s very inconvenient. The rooms are very dated, the beds weren’t comfortable, and the sheets weren’t the cleanest. Breakfast had very few options and wasn’t good. The hotel has potential, but it needs a proper renovation and better customer service.
