The pool was wonderful and the spa was excellent. If relaxing in the pool and sauna is your main goal, this place is a great choice. Sleep was another matter for us. We were on the second floor and every half hour there was a very disruptive low-frequency sound for about seven minutes. I had specifically asked by email for a quiet room, but we still got one with that persistent noise. There was no one at reception in the evening, and the room had no front desk phone number, so we couldn’t report the noise or raise any other concerns after hours. The dining area was unpleasant too, with music that was much too loud and poor acoustics. If getting a good night’s sleep matters, this may not be the hotel for you.

The restaurant serves delicious homemade food, and its homemade wine was great. Prices seemed normal. The hotel has hot spring pools and a spa center, and it’s a convenient one-hour drive from Sofia. I’d definitely recommend it and would visit again.

We especially loved the outdoor pool, filled with pure mineral water from the mountains. It was early May and still a bit cool, but the pool was heated just right. There’s also a fitness center, sauna, indoor hot tub, spa, and massage therapist, along with great food. The resort has a lively feel, with friendly staff and interesting guests. Its grand architecture still has a quaint countryside charm. A relaxing, scenic getaway just outside Sofia. I highly recommend Hotel Nikol.

The hot swimming pool is the best part of this very nice hotel. It’s open 24 hours, which makes it lovely to enjoy when it’s cold outside.
