Apart Complex Aquamarine

A wonderful stay. The location was just right, our room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly. I’d happily return.

The room had broken glass on the floor, which our little dog nearly ate. The bedroom was dirty, with cobwebs, dead spiders, and mosquitoes, so we used our own sheets. The towels smelled good. Staff seemed unmotivated, unhelpful, and unfriendly. The pool wasn’t properly maintained and had bugs in it, although it looked great at night. There were stains and large marks in the bathroom corners, and caulking covered the sink. The air conditioning didn’t work even though the remote had batteries.

We waited over an hour at reception, then more than five hours for a room. The place was filthy, with ants all over the floor and broken things in the bathroom. It’s out in the woods, far from both the center and beach, and there was no Wi-Fi in the rooms. The staff spoke only Russian and were terribly unwelcoming. The food was disgusting.

The pool was the best part for us: the water was comfortable, sometimes even warm, and the kids only disturbed anyone once or twice during our four days. Pool WiFi sometimes worked better than the slow, unreliable connection downstairs, though there was no signal in our room. There weren't enough loungers, and one day I saw something disgusting right in front of me while lying on one (see photo). Getting to the beach means taking the receptionist's route of about 150 meters, mostly down stairs that made me feel I could fall any moment. The beach itself was dirty, with sand that was mostly tiny rocks, and there weren't enough loungers there either. The view of the beach is beautiful, though. The rooms were okay for what we paid, but the bathroom was another matter. Cleaning seemed to mean fresh towels and toilet paper; we had to clean the bathroom ourselves because it was poorly cleaned, or not cleaned at all. Breakfast barely changed from day to day, which isn't my complaint, but there wasn't much to choose from. Dinner also had a limited selection, with one cooked dish from the kitchen each evening, and it wasn't always good. We struggled with parking. There are some lots, but they're hard to reach or maneuver in, and after coming back late one night we had to leave the car on the street. It had a scratch the next morning. Staff didn't seem keen to help, and we got conflicting stories: one person said they had to wait for a security company to check the cameras, another said that wasn't needed, and another tried to convince us the trees had covered the car. At reception, they initially couldn't find our reservation. When they did, they didn't really understand our requests and tried speaking Bulgarian even though they knew we didn't understand it. Some staff were friendly, while others seemed not to care. Leaving Obzor, you turn left onto a road that starts out seeming okay and then gets worse and worse. If you're after something cheap, this might suit you. But if you're expecting more than two stars for the room, food, or location, you're in the wrong place. It works as somewhere to sleep on the way home or to another destination, and little else.
