Hotel Sunny Bay

We booked our last night through Booking with free cancellation, but before we got to Pomorie, the hotel told us we had to pay a 50bgn deposit or lose the reservation. We paid because we wanted to keep the booking. Then personal reasons meant we had to shorten our stay, and we cancelled on time. The hotel still claimed we owed them money and didn’t return the deposit. They advertise free cancellation but ask for money to make sure you don’t cancel. If you don’t pay, they cancel the booking. It feels like a scam.

We especially loved looking out over the sea from this lovely hotel. It’s at the end of the boulevard, in a fairly quiet spot. Breakfast was OK, though we didn’t try anything else since there are lots of good places to eat nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful, and you can tell the team takes real care of keeping everything exceptionally clean.

You’re right by the beach, a few minutes on foot from the center, with a market next door. The location is great, but there were a lot of problems. The hotel was advertised with breakfast and a restaurant, but the restaurant was completely closed, so there was no breakfast either. They only accept cash, and the front desk staff were unprepared and couldn’t answer questions, apart from the manager. Hygiene was just acceptable: my room had a dirty-looking wall, and both rooms we used had sand on the floor when we first arrived. One room had awful beds that made it hard to sleep, and the air conditioner ran with a broken thermostat. The listing said the rooms had been renovated, but only the front rooms were; ours weren’t. There was no parking lot or safe area, so we had to park two blocks away in a paid area. The beach here is small, and during high season you might not find a spot unless you get there at 6-7am. There were other smaller issues too.

The room was offered as “ALL INCLUSIVE,” but it wasn’t. Even the coffee machine in the lobby costs extra, and the restaurant has a “For Rent” sign. There’s no parking, free or paid, so you have to find your own spot. The rooms were below average, with horrible mattresses and pillows and old, worn furniture. Bring a drying rack, soap and shampoo, and whatever else you think you might need. Cleaning didn’t happen until our third day. They took out the trash and replaced two towels, and maybe we could have asked for all of them to be changed, but we shouldn’t have to request such basic things. The location is top-notch, right by the beach, the main street along the water, and places to eat, though the surrounding spots are just as well placed. On arrival, they told us our room wasn’t ready and would be ready around 15:00. There’s a sign at reception saying check-in is at 15:00 and checkout at 12:00, while my booking said 14:00. I didn’t mind the one-hour difference, but if I’d known, I wouldn’t have arrived at 13:45 or left home so early. They did give us a room at 13:59, but I had to make a fuss to get it. I know, Bulgarian mentality issues. There’s more I could say, but I don’t see the point. Nothing will improve, and I’ll never stay there again.
