That bottle of water waiting for me made a great first impression. I’d walked about 30 minutes from the bus station in the heat, so the 1.5 liter bottle was very welcome. For vegans, spot nextdoor, which isn’t on Google Maps, serves falafel, and you can ask for hummus instead of garlic sauce. I stayed the night of 12th July and was pleased with everything. The woman at check-in was cool and nice, and I felt lucky to get a room with a great view. It was small but didn’t feel cramped or stuffy, and it was modern, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was a little dated, but it’s an inexpensive hotel, so I didn’t mind. The wifi worked well.

The receptionist was pleasant and smiling, and the location is very good. Breakfast was okay, with sweet and savory options, eggs and scrambled eggs, pasta, sausages, cheeses, vegetables, cereal, and other basic breakfast items. There were several juices, though they weren’t good, while the milk was good. It wasn’t anything extravagant, just the basics for a decent breakfast. The room cleanliness could have been more thorough. I noticed black marks on the wall and a stain on the sheet when I arrived. The bathroom was old and didn’t match the hotel’s style. The bin wouldn’t open when pressed, the shower handle was partly detached and came off completely, spraying water across the bathroom. The shower doors were loose and the joints were moldy. The bathroom smelled each time I returned to the room, which was a big minus. I think the cleaning staff could do a better job. It used to be a fine place for a restful, enjoyable night, and aside from these issues it’s still a fine, well-located place. I didn’t try the gym, pool, or massages.

The walls are thin, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. Our standard room on the second floor was small, with a recently renovated bedroom area but an older, dated bathroom. Breakfast was included, with homemade waffles, fresh fruit, and various juices. The gym was decent and free, but the sauna and swimming pool were too small to enjoy and cost about 7,50 euro per hour. Our friends in another standard room got fresh towels, but we didn’t. Normally that wouldn’t matter, but ours were still wet the next day. Reception was closed when we got back from being out, so we couldn’t ask for a new set. It’s a good hotel in central Ruse.
