Perun Hotel

The VIP apartment was beautiful, with two bedrooms, an open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area, plus a huge balcony. There are indoor and outdoor pools at the hotel, and my kids had a great time in the small kids corner. We enjoyed everything we tried from the lobby kitchen. The selection is small, but the food was delicious, and the staff were very polite. It's close to the city park, a lovely spot for a morning walk or a trip to the local Luna Park with the kids. We'd happily recommend it and would love to return.

We had specifically asked for a baby bed and sheets for our second child, and the request had been confirmed. When we arrived, neither was in the room. That was a real letdown, which is why I gave the service three stars.

We ended up at Perun hotel after mixing it up with a nearby hotel with a very similar name. Getting the keys and settling into the apartment took some effort because of the language barrier. Unfortunately, most people in this smal city of Bulgaria (Sandusky) don't speak English. The apartment was large, with two big bedrooms, each with two beds, a small bathroom with a shower, and a medium-sized balcony furnished with a table and four chairs. There was just one wardrobe, in one bedroom. The other felt bare, though it did have a little refrigerator. The shower had plenty of hot water for a long shower. It was warm to too warm in most parts of the hotel, including the hallways, reception and SPA area. Breakfast was nice, though the range of food, drinks and coffee was small. Paid lunch and dinner are available at Perun, and the meals were warm, nice and freshly prepared. The SPA area was very nice, with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, stem room, hot and cold showers and a massage room. Both adults and children made good use of it. We also had a massage. The masseur seemed inexperienced to me, but was very willing to satisfy. The bill came to around €150 per day. That's not expensive, but I expected it to be a lot less, and there to be a lot more English. There's adequate parking, and the hotel is beside a small river, very near a nice, large park with open space, green areas, trees, toys for toddlers and children, and an open-air swimming pool. I'd recommend Perun!

The park and lake are very close, and you can walk from the hotel to the city center in 15 minutes. Breakfast, cleanliness and service were all fine. The one drawback was the pool: when crowded, it's very small and doesn't look like the one in the booking advertisement. Worth a try.
