Smilen Hotel

The hotel used to be great, but the quality has dropped a lot lately. The rooms are excellently designed, though maintenance is seriously lacking, especially in the bathroom. The restaurant seems to be run by people without much experience, from the cooks to the waiters and other staff. It feels like someone was handed the whole hotel without the experience or funds to manage it and is just trying to make ends meet. Breakfast was extremely basic and low quality.

The lobby was one of the spots I enjoyed most, it gave the place a warm, comfortable feel. This family owned hotel has friendly family members as staff, and it's on a hill not far from the main road, with nice views from the window or open terrace. The rooms are cozy and warm, with a fridge, kettle, soap and shampoo. The original interior looks good, and there's a restaurant serving tasty Bulgarian cuisine 🤗. You can also enjoy the sauna and massage. I liked the hotel and would like to come back 😊👍

The food was incredibly delicious, and the restaurant felt cozy, with a fireplace and really comfy tables and chairs. The hotel had a pleasant atmosphere and low prices. The ski tracks are only five minutes from the nearest lift. Amazing hotel, strongly recommend!

The staff were polite to us and our dog, and I was glad we could bring the dog along since the place is pet friendly. The nature around it is stunning, and it's lovely to have that view from the window. Smolyan Lakes are nearby, reachable by car or on foot. Breakfast is traditional Bulgarian style, but it isn't suitable for vegans, and there aren't many vegan menu options. We made do by ordering toasted bread with jam, better than nothing.
