Guest House Plavas

We left feeling stressed, not relaxed, and I wouldn't recommend this guest house to anyone hoping for a peaceful, respectful holiday. The location and cleanliness were acceptable, but the host's behavior overshadowed them. We felt unwelcome and treated with disrespect, and some remarks came across as condescending and, at times, xenophobic. It all felt tense and passive-aggressive rather than hospitable. After we asked for toilet paper, the host seemed visibly irritated. We were also sent a message saying, “I’m terrified… Your room is dirty and freezing… If you don’t accept the rules, you will be forced to leave the house.” We had smoked outside on the balcony, but accidentally left the host-provided ashtray inside. We were then accused of smoking in the room and threatened with a €50/day fine. The host came into our room and unplugged the TV, which felt like a petty way to punish us. From the moment we arrived at Guest House Plavas in Sozopol, we felt treated differently once it became clear we were Romanian. We weren't allowed to see the room before paying. When we asked whether the air conditioning worked, the response was sarcastic: “What, in Romania it doesn’t work?” Tourism should involve kindness, openness, and clear communication, and we didn't experience those things here. We left feeling that basic dignity and warmth were missing.

The owners were very nice and helped make our stay a great experience. We had a lovely terrace with a sea view, and the price was good for what we got. The location is close to the center yet quiet. The equipment was enough for our weekend, and it would probably be fine for a week too.

Handy location.

We booked three weeks before leaving, when there weren't many places still available in the city, but this worked well for our two-night stay. The apartment is spacious, with a view of a small stretch of sea, and the little balcony was nice for two. The kitchen was well equipped. The owner is friendly and speaks English, though her husband, who welcomed us, doesn't. We were lucky to find free street parking, and there's also a paid lot 10 meters from the house. We walked into town and to the central beach, about eight minutes away, though the steep uphill walk back was a workout. A good place.
