City Hotel

The wedding reception that night made the stay even noisier, despite the hotel manual asking guests to keep things down after 11 pm. The next morning, breakfast was meant to start at 7:30, but the restaurant was a mess after the wedding. Our group had to eat at dirty tables in a dirty room, with only the security officer there to help. No staff appeared until 8 am, and breakfast was a disaster for a hotel in this category. The room itself was shabby and tired. The carpet looked as if it hadn’t been vacuumed properly, if at all, and thick black dust on the inside windowsill put me off opening the windows, so I used the air con. The bathroom seemed fine at first glance but was worn on closer inspection, and the kitchen was too, though I didn’t use it. The fridge was fairly new and clean inside, and there was another single bed. I noticed thick dust on the side of the TV table while lying on the couch. There was a hotel manual beside the TV and phone, which I read before considering the restaurant menu or room service. I decided to walk into the city center for a bite instead. The hotel is a little outside the center, but you can get there by taxi. I stayed only one night and found the whole experience very disappointing. I wouldn’t return. The hotel needs some TLC.

Hotel City has kind, supportive staff, and the rooms were clean. But small things around the hotel need fixing, including leaky toilets and broken shower-head holders. The common areas don't seem to get cleaned: the restaurant restrooms were dirty at breakfast, and the bins were full.

The concierge team really went out of their way to help us.

The staff were friendly, but the hotel is in an industrial zone, and I hope I never have to stay there again. The decor was poor quality, with a Russian barock look like a gipsy castle, and the food wasn't very good. My shower and heater were broken, there was no cable TV in my room, the WiFi was weak, and parking was busy till working days.
