Chateau Montagne Hotel Troyan

The restaurant and pool area were very pleasant, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was great too. I wasn’t keen on the room decor, and the beds and pillows were rather uncomfortable. The narrow hallways also had piles of mattresses and cleaning supplies.

We were there at the end of November 2023 for my partner’s conference. After landing in Sofia, we got caught in the first real snow of the winter, around 12 inches, and drove very slowly. We arrived after midnight but had called the hotel about the delay. They were incredibly understanding and had a hot dinner, drinks, and desserts ready for us. The welcome was warm. Outside was well lit and had Christmas lights, and the reception desk was staffed by a helpful, understanding receptionist. The lobby was large, clean, and comfortable, with tables, chairs, loungers, a free pool table, and a small bar. Parking was extremely limited, perhaps because of the snow, though there was free parking on nearby roads. Apartment 3A on the third floor was spacious, with a large double room, a big sitting room, hallway, balcony, and good-sized bathroom. The rooms are a bit dated. The bed covers were single size, and they didn’t have a double duvet when we asked. I also didn’t like that fold-up beds were stored in the corridor. The bathroom drain had a bad smell, something we’ve noticed in places in Bulgaria. We covered the drain and left the extractor running for a few hours, and the smell went away. The food was good and very well priced. It’s a small kitchen, so dishes are prepared to order, and changing things on the menu was no problem. We tried the small indoor pool, which was warm, and each had a full-body aromatherapy massage. The massage was amazing, professional, and very well done. The staff were helpful, and it was a comfortable stay. I’d come again if I’m in the area.

The room was a nice size, clean, and roomy enough for a baby. For a hotel this size, the indoor pool is decent, and the steam bath and sauna both worked perfectly. I was especially pleased with the massage therapist. The lobby is a good place to relax with friends, and the restaurant has room for all the guests. My only small gripe was the restaurant food. Most of the set menus were fried dishes, and some friends felt unwell after eating them. Still, I was very pleased with the experience.

The restaurant was very nice, with a good selection and prices, and the service was very good. The free parking is a great feature. The breakfast buffet was good too, though it could use more variety and a better presentation, and the morning lighting was a bit dull. The room itself needs some attention. Mine was a small single, and it didn’t have much in the way of amenities, no coffee or tea facilities and no complimentary welcome water. The interior is worn. The bathroom especially needs updating: the door was starting to rot, the shower head was falling apart, and the toilet seat was loose.
