The conference room air conditioning didn’t work, and the hotel pool was small, quickly crowded, with too few loungers. Our three-person rooms had no beds available, so we were put in a six-person room that was worn and badly in need of renovation. From the start, the bathroom shower wouldn’t drain because the drain was clogged with sand. The food was greasy and many dishes had no taste, so we ended up sticking to French fries. The self-serve orange and blackcurrant soda was undrinkable, with a horrible chemical, diluted taste, perhaps only 0.1% fruit juice. There was also a white residue at the bottom of the glass.

I’d gone to the gym here for two years, but this year the hotel was closed. There was no sign or notice, and ringing the doorbell again and again brought no response. A scrap of checkered notebook paper, stuck on like a postage stamp, said “On duty” and gave a mobile number. When I called, I heard a strained “Hello!” I must have woken Grandma Metsa, who had clearly gone to lie down. She seemed surprised that I’d disturbed her rest, as though she weren’t supposed to be working. The whole thing was disappointing, and the woman came across as sleepy and unfriendly. I hope the manager deals with employees like this. With service that unreliable, no wonder the place is closed. I’ll forget this “hotel.”
