“Reasonable Private Room” I spent several nights in May 2026 in a private room with its own toilet and shower, on the second floor of a two-story building. The hostel was a 45-minute walk from South Bus Terminal. There were no staff around when I arrived, so I used the instructions from the email I’d received beforehand to get into the room. The staff were kind and friendly. Towels and a kitchen were available. There was no hairdryer, body soap, or shampoo, and no desk or table. The common area had floor seating without tables. The outdoor space in front of reception was the smoking area. Reception hours were 09:30-12:30, and payment was cash only. There was one cat. In the room, WiFi measured 5.8Mbps at 14:00 and 200Kbps at 20:00. In the shared space it was 9.6Mbps at 14:00 and 160Kbps at 20:00. In the 1F kitchen it was 3.9Mbps at 09:00, but unavailable for most of the time I was in the kitchen.

Veliko Tarnovo is a great place to stop and rest if you’re heading to Sofia or Bucharest, but don’t plan on staying just one night. There’s plenty to explore. It’s an absolutely wonderful place to stay, and Brettandbear on all socials approves. The manager is a cat, by the way.

Picture a big, traditional old Bulgarian house in the heart of Turnovo, turned into a hostel. Everyone was friendly, and the owner was nice too. The floors and beds squeak a bit when you walk or move, which isn’t great when people are sleeping, but it’s not a big deal. The prices are great, and I’d happily go back many times and always recommend it. Probably one of the best hostels ever, not gonna lie.

The place was clean and cozy, with a relaxed, welcoming feel. The permanent staff and volunteers were some of the loveliest people we’ve met on our travels: helpful, friendly, and always happy to chat or suggest something. After a really disappointing stay at another hostel, we were so relieved to find this one. We can’t thank the staff enough for letting us stay an extra night at very short notice. And the hostel cat was the sweetest breakfast companion. Highly recommend!

The owner is super nice, and everything is clean and tidy. We could lounge on the cushions and chat. Cat Mama is definitely the best!
