The views of Trapezitsa Fortress and Tsarevets Fortress were excellent, and staff directed us to parking at the "red building." The hotel is right by a busy road and railway, though, and traffic and trains could be heard at night. The balcony room had no soundproofing or blackout curtains, so light and noise made it hard to sleep. Our two 90 cm single beds had old spring mattresses that sagged, and there was just one soft pillow. The beds were made and towels changed each day, but nobody cleaned the floor, where the same dust bunnies stayed throughout our visit. The bathroom was tiny and renovated, but there was no shower screen or curtain, leaving the whole floor wet. We got one shampoo sachet and a small bar of soap, and the towels felt very rough. Breakfast was limited and basic: bread, cake, butter, jam, yogurt, cheese, ham, and apples. It was served in the lobby by the same staff member who covered the front desk. She was always smiling and handled everything from check-in to housekeeping, though her English was limited.

The rooms are small and old, but they have all the basics. The location is excellent, and there’s parking.

The only thing that really worked for us was the view of the castle on the hill. My wife and I stayed one night, and even our low expectations weren’t met. It definitely didn’t feel like a three-star place. They only accepted cash, so we had to walk 20 minutes to find an ATM that worked. It felt a bit scammy, and the receptionist made rude jokes about the situation. DO NOT USE EURONET!!! The room was nothing special, a bit dusty in places and generally low quality. Breakfast was appalling. It was self-serve in the lobby, which I think also functioned as the kitchen. There were a few supermarket ham slices, a little tomato, and uncooked wurst. We were flabbergasted.

The room had been renovated, and the view of the fortress was amazing. There was breakfast, and you could enter the hotel at any time.
