Dawkins Manor Hotel

I felt looked after at Dawkins Manor. Ms. Dawkins took time to point me toward good shopping, sightseeing, and beach spots, and she’s attentive, kind, and smart. The location and rates are good, and the customer service stood out. My room was immaculate and thoughtfully laid out, with everything I needed for the kitchen and bathroom in its place. It made for a memorable stay, and I’ve told friends and family to choose Dawkins Manor for a Bermudian vacation. Many thanks to Ms.Dawkins for her professionalism and grace.

There were roaches, and I felt the owner seemed to like tourists more than other guests. She was mean and unpleasant when I spoke with her. When I pointed out that the front of the property says guest house, she said otherwise and called the people staying there tourists. She kicks you out. Charging 3 dollars for WiFi is outrageous, and I won’t book here again. Everyone has good and bad days, but if you run a business you should be nice and keep a good attitude, since you never know what someone else is going through. I didn’t appreciate the stay at all.

We were very pleased with our visit, and the location made getting around Bermuda easy. It’s about the same distance from Dockyard and St George, with the No 7 bus a two-minute walk away on South road, running to Dockyard and Hamilton. Modern Mart is in the same direction, also about two minutes on foot. Elbow beach, with its pink sand, is a 15-minute walk. Paraquete is about a 10-minute walk, and Gulfstream near Horse shoe beach is around 6-7 minutes by bus toward dockyard. Hamilton has lots of good places to eat, and we liked Pickled Onion. The pool was clean and nice, though we were too busy at the beach and elsewhere to use it. Cecilia, the hardworking owner/manager, put her heart into making sure things ran well and helped us feel comfortable. I’d highly recommend this place. It made our Bermuda trip wonderful and memorable.

At night the crickets chirp loudly, like a low battery smoke detector, and Elbow Beach is about a 19-minute walk. The owner avoids you at checkout. In the room, a laminated sheet lays out all kinds of rules, and it feels like they watch your every move. Everything seems to be about conserving or getting charged. Shampoo and conditioner weren’t replenished daily, the couch was dirty, and the furniture was outdated. The microwave broke during our stay and wasn’t fixed or replaced. We wound up paying more than the upscale resorts nearby.
