Gran Hotel Cochabamba

The lobby, pools and meeting hall were kept up well, and the hotel met our needs while we were there. The rooms felt dated, with old mattresses, stained sheets and towels, and mold in the shower. I don’t know if that kind of wear is standard for accumulations in the area. I’ve traveled a lot around the world and didn’t think this deserved a five-star rating.

The breakfast has a wide range of options, the rooms are clean, and many attractions are within walking distance. The staff are very attentive and keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It’s a busy hotel, so it took me a while to get used to all the noise, but it didn’t become a problem.

The kind staff, beautiful pool and delicious breakfast were good, but the stay left us feeling let down. We were charged extra laundry fees when leaving because our one-year-old daughter had eaten room service in bed and the sheets were dirty. I’d expect bedding to be washed between guests at a five-star hotel, and wondered where the room charge goes if it doesn’t cover that. If they can’t afford to wash the sheets between customers, they shouldn’t allow children or room service. Maybe it was a cultural misunderstanding, but we started criticizing the experience. There were also outdated bathrooms, a mistake in our room service order, and several calls to our room asking when we’d check out, which made us feel unwelcome. Maybe it was a one-off, but we wish we’d chosen somewhere else in Cochabamba.
