Hotel Lago Azul

The location is great and the balcony is great too, but be careful dealing with the administration. The homeowners did a terrible job of making guests feel welcome. If you’re not from around here, negotiate carefully. Customer service is terrible, and the owners seem to watch your every move. The lack of respect for privacy was really upsetting.

This is easily the best of the hotels I checked out in Copacabana. You can’t book it through the usual booking platforms, but it’s easy to walk over from the bus and get a room with BOL cash. Weekends might be harder when locals from La Paz fill the town. The location is easy to get around from, the balconies overlook the lake, and there’s a lift. After hauling luggage up stairs at other high-altitude Bolivian hotels, that’s a real pleasure. The lift doesn’t reach the entrance level, but that’s minor. Beds are comfortable, and you can fall asleep to the lake lapping or the occasional dog. The shower takes 5 to 10 minutes to warm up.

The rooms were clean and nice, with an electric kettle for tea, and breakfast was included. The morning buffet was really good and had lots of choices. It’s a nice hotel close to the water and restaurants.

Loved the orange toilet, and the view of the lake and sunset was great. The shower was the best I’ve had in South America as a backpacker, and the buffet breakfast was my best in South America too. Heating stayed on all night without making the room too hot. Staff were lovely, the location was great, and it was within a reasonable budget. I don’t usually write reviews, but this place deserved one.
